The factory is on the main SP 255, Via Modena, on the outskirts of the town, but within walking distance of the historic centre, and is still the site on which Ferruccio Lamborghini established the original factory in 1963.

Scuderia Ferrari thus made the best of what turned into a bad situation right from the start. Seb limited the damage, with Hamilton now heading him in the championship by 14 points.

Les 24 Heures du Mans ... sweet moment for Fernando Alonso to stand on the top step of the podium as a rookie

The 86th running of the famous “24 Heures du Mans” took place over the weekend of 16-17 June, and, as is traditional, was preceded by a week of build-up both at the track and in the town centre. In addition to the main race there were a trio of support races, one featuring “Aston Martin Racing Lemans Festival” and a pair for the “Road to Le Mans” part of the Michelin Cup series for LMP3 and GT3 cars.

About one month upfront the most popular car event in Germany, the Schloss Dyck Classic Days, the elegant water castle served again as a picturesque background for a superb concours. For the fourth time the Masterpieces Concours invited many important collectors to one of the best kept secret in the classic car calendar. Once initiated by the organizers of the crowded Classic Days as a more private counterpart the Masterpieces are held in a much more familiar atmosphere of likeminded enthusiasts showing their treasured collector cars to a selected audience following the English saying “not crowded but the right crowd”.

Formula 1 ... Austrian Grand Prix ... Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel on the podium with Jos Verstappen

It looked like being a tough race, what with penalties and problems at the start, but it ended with both Scuderia Ferrari men on the podium. Kimi finishing second ahead of Seb was not something that would have been predicted going into the race. The result was down to the drivers of course, but also to a great job from the team, a well planned strategy and an SF71H which seemed particularly good at managing its tyres.

Le Mans Classic ... A record-breaking edition!

The number of historic racing cars that continues to increase event after event, drivers coming from all over the world plus more car clubs, exhibitors and activities all confirm the undeniable growth of Le Mans Classic since its creation in 2002. This biennial event, an exceptional mega-sized retrospective of the history of the iconic 24-Hours race, jointly organised by Peter Auto and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, has fired the enthusiasm of a growing number of collectors who come to take advantage of this unique opportunity to race on the big Le Mans circuit.

Total 24 Hours of Spa ... BMW M6 GT3 wins Overall & Pro Class

The 2018 edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa was the 70th anniversary of the race, and as if to help the celebrations go smoothly, the notoriously fickle Spa weather played its part and it remained dry throughout the race. It had threatened to rain with a couple of short sharp showers on the Thursday, one of which interrupted the drivers photo shoot on the grid, but those aside, very high (up to 37deg C) ambient temperatures were the order of the day for the proceedings leading up to the race. One of the most popular features of the pre-race build-up, is the drivers parade and autograph session on the Thursday evening, when all the competing cars drive from the circuit to the centre of Spa, where they are parked in the main street near the casino, for the evening, which allows the race fans to get really close to the cars and drivers.

Schloss Dyck Classic Days ... The 3 days festival once again attracted more than 40.000 visitors despite the heat wave

New and established...This might be the slogan of the Classic Days in Schloss Dyck between Moenchengladbach and Düsseldorf. Situated in the urban sprawl of the river Rhine and near the border to the Netherlands and Belgium the 3 days festival once again attracted more than 40.000 visitors despite the heat wave affecting most of Europe at the moment. For the (un)lucky 13th edition the volunteers of the Classic Days Club have set up the festival on burnt steppe-like meadows to fill the dry dusty field with colorful highlights, many of them proven over the years, some of them a first.

FIA World Endurance Championship, Silverstone

The FIA WEC 6 Hours of Silverstone, was the Sunday afternoon finale to a double endurance header weekend at the circuit, having been preceded by the ELMS race on the Saturday afternoon. In addition to the endurance races there were three European F3 races run over the course of the weekend. Surprisingly for a British summer weekend at Silverstone the weather remained dry throughout, despite the occasional ominous black cloud blowing through on a stiff breeze during the Sunday morning. Endurance racing is certainly alive and well in the UK, as there were over 65,000 spectators over the course of the weekend.

Concours on the Avenue 2018 ... Best of Show was presented in the late afternoon with the Lamborghini taking the top laurels

For the first time this week cars will be seen on the Ocean Avenue but unlike the posh Pebble Beach Concours entrants that could be seen on Thursday the Concours on the Avenue is much more a cars&coffee meeting attracting all sorts of cars from the small Austin Minis to the American muscle cars in different classes

European Le Mans Series Silverstone

The fourth round of the European Le Mans Series was held at the Silverstone circuit on Saturday 18 August, attracting an entry of 41 cars across the three classes, with 16 in the LMP2 division, 18 in the LMP3 division and 7 in the LMGTE group. The 4 hour race formed part of an endurance double header, preceding the FIA WEC 6 hour race which was held on the Sunday afternoon, providing enthusiasts with 10 hours of endurance racing over the course of the weekend, plus practice and qualifying sessions, together with a trio of FIA F3 European Championship races. It would be a real test of endurance for some drivers, as no less than fourteen of them were participating in both the ELMS and FIA WEC races.

Monterey Auction Previews and McCall 2018

The Monterey Car Week is in full swing. What started as a concours of petrol heads decades ago became an economic factor both for the peninsula as well as for the car business. Thousands of visitors stream into Monterey every day and with the weekend around the corner more and more hotels at the main roads show “no vacancy” sign despite a heavy premium on the prices.

Pebble Beach Tour d´Elegance and Auction Preview

Now the Pebble Beach Concours is officially around the corner. Today the concours cars rolled out for the first time from their transporters located near the Gooding & Company tent for the Tour d´Elegance down to Big Sur and back. Once arrived at 7am the first of the two groups was already lined up 1.5 hours before the departure and just like on Concours Sunday a few owners could not wait to be the first in line. Being one of the main sponsors the parade was let by Mercedes-Benz cars from the factory museum but since Sir Stirling Moss officially retired from any duties the rush at the front of the field was reasonable.

There were cheers and applause when five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell stepped out of the car after driving it across the auction block in front of an overflowing salesroom, followed by gasps as auctioneer Maarten ten Holder opened the bidding at the unprecedented level of $35 million. Three collectors bidding via telephone competed for the car, sometimes moving in million dollar increments before it hammered after nearly ten minutes for $44 million, or $48,405,000 with fees.

European sportscars dominated the sale and led to the smashing of several existing world auction records. Ferrari and Formula 1, few terms are linked more than the famous Scuderia and the top category of open wheel racing. Although now waiting for more than a decade to bring back a title to Maranello the Scuderia Ferrari is still the most successful team in the History of F1 and Ferrari is the only team to run every season since the series was introduced in 1950. Being the team principle of the Scuderia Ferrari that ran the works entries for Alfa Romeo in the 1930s Enzo Ferrari early on saw the importance of the GP series aside the sports car world championship to position his marque as the leading sport car manufacturer that it should become over the next decades.
