As part of the Maserati 75th Anniversary celebrations, Maserati UK commissioned Craig Warwick to produce two paintings, the first a mixed medium rendition of their racing history, and the second an acrylic on canvas montage of the road car history. As usual the cars for sale in the Poulain Le Fur Auction at December 10th where displayed in the shopping centre in the Palais des Congrés of Paris. The biggest attraction was a nice Porsche 906 (s/n 906-115) which was part of the Bernd Becker collection during the last 24 years, this car participated 3 times in the Targa Florio (66,67 and 68). Only 10 275 N.A.R.T. Spyders where build, several 275 GTB�s like s/n 7603 where modified by coachbuilders like Straman.

The Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge group visited its second new venue of the year over the weekend of 21/23 September, when the home of the French Grand Prix, Magny Cours, played host as part of a Ferrari Maserati Festival. Participants arrived at The Charter Resort Hotel in Beaver Creek, about an hour and a half drive to the west of Denver in the midst of the winter ski resorts, on Monday 10 September to register for the thirteenth Colorado Grand. The ninth issue of the GP Nuvolari, being held from September 15th to 17th 2001, again was highly successful. 140 teams from all over the world took part starting in Mantova, the hometown of Tazio Nuvolari. With the defection of title sponsor Coys to the rival Rockingham circuit for their own historic meeting in May, the Silverstone event had rival auction house Bonhams & Brooks to host the traditional auction, and moved the date on the calendar to the August bank Holiday weekend. The event was billed as the �Biggest Historic race Meeting In The World�, with over 450 car and motorcycle entries in an eighteen race programme

The annual Silverstone historic race meeting has moved from its traditional July date to late August, with the event scheduled to take place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 25 � 27 August. The traditional auction will this year be hosted by Bonham & Brooks

The annual classic gathering in California (USA) took place between 17 � 19 August, which all visitors say is a sensory overload for classic car fans, with numerous functions, auctions and gatherings apart from the main events around which they revolve

With well over 600 historic cars competing on the contemporary grand prix track in the Eiffel mountains, together with a 400km Marathon on the historic Nordschleife and numerous parking lots occupied by the visiting marque clubs, the 29th run of the AvD Oldtimer Grand-Prix provided for a weekend packed with motor racing

As part of the Brands Hatch circuit 75th Anniversary celebrations a �Big Red� Ferrari Festival was held over the weekend of 20-22 July. In the fifteen race programme only four had no Ferrari content, or only two if you include the pre-war Scuderia Ferrari Alfa Romeos as Ferrari content

This event was organised by the Historic Auto Race Club, Royal Airforce Historic Flight and the Rotary Club. It was held at the Military airport of Gilze-Rijen, and blessed with beautiful sunny weather. The debut of this combination event showed off classic aeroplanes and cars, respectively in the air, and on the start- and landing strips of the airport

The Ennstal-Classic 2001, the ninth issue since 1993, is now recognised as one of the most important Historic Rally�s in Europe. Some even say that as an Competitor in Historic events you have to compete in four races: The Mille Miglia, the Festival of Speed, the Coppa d�Oro delle Dolomiti and � The Ennstal-Classic

American racing will be one of this year�s themes, with the participation of Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan and Bobby Unser to celebrate 90 years of the Indianapolis 500. Many of the major F1 teams will also participate with cars in demonstration runs, as the event falls a week before the British G.P. at Silverstone

Each year a different Region of the club hosts the National Meet. The Host region for the 2001 event, was the South Central Region and the venue is the 5 star Mandalay Omni hotel at Las Colinas plus MotorSport Ranch near Dallas, Texas. The state has a reputation for everything being �BIG�, so expect something a bit different with a few surprises

The 11th edition of the annual "Italia a Zandvoort" event at the dutch dune circuit. Since the famous, private "International Zandvoort meetings" of the Ferrari Club Netherlands were changed to a public event under the "Italia a Zandvoort" name, the different editions have been of different quality

In recent years the annual D.K. Engineering and Kinnerton Confectionery Test Day has been held at the Goodwood and Silverstone circuits. This year with the opening of the new facility at Rockingham, they moved there for their corporate day on 21 June. They used only the infield section of the circuit, which provided a demanding series of bends and short straights for the participants

The Ferrari Owners� Club (GB) has hold their annual concours in the grounds of Broughton Castle near Banbury in Oxfordshire on Sunday 1 July

After quite a lengthy spell at the Brooklands Museum complex in Surrey, Auto Italia moved north to the grounds of Stanford Hall in Leicestershire for their annual Italian Car Festival on 9 June, held in conjunction with National Alfa Day on Sunday 10 June

In June 2000 the Le Mans circuit hosted a round of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge as a curtain-raiser to the 24 Hour Race, this year it was another historic race that fulfilled this role, called Le Mans Legend. The race was for cars of the type that had competed in the 24 Hour Race between 1949 and 1964, in eight classes, and attracted a wide ranging but predominantly British based entry of 62 cars plus four reserves

Maserati is a company with an even longer and more chequered history than Ferrari, who were one of their main rivals on the racetracks of the world during the nineteen fifties, and in the showrooms of high performance cars during the sixties and seventies. The paths taken by the two companies were long and varied, but eventually through the Fiat empire they became stable mates in July 1997, when Ferrari acquired 50% of Maserati from Fiat, with an option to purchase the remaining 50% before the end of the year 2000. They took up this option in November 1999, and thus at that time Maserati became wholly owned by Ferrar

The Bond Street Association in conjunction with the Ferrari Owners� Club, held a one-off Ferrari only concours spanning the length of Bond Street in the heart of London, during the evening of 7 June. With co-operation from Westminster City Council and the Metropolitan Police, the street was closed to through traffic from 6-00pm to 9-00pm to celebrate �Bond Evening�. The proprietors of the exclusive retail outlets, boutiques and galleries, like Asprey & Garrard, Baccarat, Cartier, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Versace, to name but a few of the renowned names that line the street, hold an annual open evening for clients, that this year had the concours as its core theme

This Mille Miglia 2001 will stay in my mind for a very long time because of two more or less professional attempts to pass the scrutinizing with Ferrari 250 TR replicas. First, the monsoon rain at the start on Thursday evening and, last but not least, the brake down of my personal car, which frustrated my Mille Miglia report in the end

Held for just the second time, the Modena Cento Ore Classic 2001 had to fulfil high expectations because of the first running, which was perfectly organised, ideally situated in the heart of Northern Italy with a friendly and warm atmosphere for participants. Charles Pozzi, the founder of the French Ferrari concessionaire Pozzi Ferrari France, passed away on 28 February 2001 at the age of 91. He took over the importation of Ferrari in France in the late sixties, but prior to that had a long standing love affair with fine automobiles and motor sport

2001 Anniversaries to be Commemorated
Once ensconsed in the welcoming private dining rooms of the Bluebird Club, wet apparel was laid to one side, and the �wet� went within courtesy of Veuve Clicquot! The Earl of March announced the plans for this year�s Festival of Speed to be held between 6 � 8 July, and the Revival Meeting scheduled for 14 � 16 September

In 1992 a small group of car enthusiasts, joined by the Automobile Club de France, gave themselves the honourable task of putting the "Tour de France Automobile" back on the roads of France. However, it had to be a real revival of the historic event, only open to cars that participated in the original event as run between 1951 and 1973

Europe�s largest indoor classic gathering with a large number of dealer and club stands drawn from all parts of the continent and beyond. The central feature this year was a �Tour of the Concours�, featuring facades of some of the major world concours venues, including the Villa d�Este. The show was held at the Messe Essen between 5 � 8 April

The idea to organise the first true Classic & Vintage Car Motor Show in Stuttgart � the birthplace and hometown of leading marquees like Mercedes and Porsche - was born last year when a small vintage car display at the AMA, another modern automobile exhibition, created a lot of public interest

German team Wieth Racing had been well prepped for the first entry of their 550 GTS in the FIA GT Championship in the series� first 2001 event at Monza, held on April 1st

�The Ultimate Birdcage?�
The star lot in the Christie�s auction at the Jack Barclay Showroom in Nine Elms, London on 26 March was without doubt the time warp Maserati Tipo 60 �Birdcage� chassis number 2460. This car has been in the same ownership since 1966, only two years after it ceased being raced, and has never been restored thus displays a wonderful patina with the original cracked and dented paintwork intact

For the first time, all the Prancing Horse cars which have won the World Championship will be on display at the Galleria Ferrari at Maranello. The exhibition will run from 15th February to 20th April

A new event for 2001, a road rally in the style of the Mille Miglia and Tour Auto, to be held between the 7-11 March, on the island of Majorca (E). Already it boasts a 90+ car entry list, with models as diverse as Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 and 2600, Maserati A6 GCS and 150 SI, Ferrari 166 MM, 500 Mondial, 275 GTB and 512S, Porsche 906 and Carrera RSR, to name but a few among a lengthy role of desirable machinery. The 2001 season of the Ferrari Challenge is about to start very soon. 31 participants have been enrolled for the �Central Europe� group, including only two of the old F355 Challenge cars while the rest of the pack will consist of 360 Challenge. As in previous years, there will be two categories: a �competition� category for very experienced drivers � of who many have a motor racing pedigree � and a �gentlemen� category for drivers who prefer the pure fun factor instead of hard competition.

In just six years from its inception, the Amelia Island Concours has established itself as one of the premier and most prestigious events of its type in the world. The gathering has grown in both size and quality over the years, and this year attracted over two hundred and twenty cars and motorcycles to the golf links adjacent to the front entrance of the Ritz Carlton in the exclusive Amelia Island resort in northern Florida

The Forza Amelia Rally, organized by Vintage Rallies Inc, started March 11th from the Plantation Resort the morning after the Ritz Carlton Concours, at which the entrants had their own special class display area. The rally took a 1000 mile scenic route through Florida with a foray into southern Georgia, over a four day period terminating back at the Plantation Resort on the Thursday evening

A year has passed already since the last Retromobile with its marvellous Ferrari display.
