“La Macchina del tempo – Museo Storico Alfa Romeo” is the
heart of a genuine “brand center”, with a bookshop, café,
Documentation Center, test drive track, events venues and a
show-room with a customer delivery area: it is the perfect bond

center and the Expo area. |
Laurent Auxietre and Christophe Schmidt, two well established
experts in the classic car industry, will make their debut as
Auxietre & Schmidt at the world acclaimed Rétromobile week in
Paris, from February 6th to 11th. |
“It seems incredible to think that Enzo Ferrari was born in the
19th century,” says Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne. “His
lesson is more relevant than ever and his modernity
unquestionable. He was a man with extraordinary vision and
ability to manage people and resources as well as a strong
entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional courage. One wonders what
he could have achieved if he had had access to today’s technical
resources and knowledge. The mark that he left on the world
remains a source of pride for all of us at Ferrari and for the whole
of Italy.” |
Hans Herrmann, one of the most successful and popular racing
drivers to join the Porsche AG works team, will be celebrating his
90th birthday this year on February 23. The endurance and
Monoposto specialist, born in Stuttgart in 1928, is regarded as
one of the most reliable and consistent race drivers of all time. In
the course of his motor sport career, Hans Herrmann won more
than 80 overall and best of class victories, most of them for
Porsche. |
First a little history revision on the Caramulo museum - it is
situated in the spa town of the same name, high in the hills of the
Caramulo mountain range, about 120kms south east of Porto in
Portugal. The art and car museum was the brainchild of the
brothers Abel and Joao Lacerda, who loved their town and wanted
to give it something that would attract visitors, and keep it alive,
after the sanatorium that had been its main source of
employment and income closed in the early fifties. |
The Museo Lamborghini is situated to the right of the main
entrance of the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which is a
historic small town in the countryside, approximately mid way
between Bologna and Modena. A bonus of its location right on
the factory premises is that one will see cars being taken out on
test, and maybe even spot the odd prototype. The factory is on
the main SP 255, Via Modena, on the outskirts of the town, but
within walking distance of the historic centre, and is still the site
on which Ferruccio Lamborghini established the original factory in
1963. |

For the 36th time the Lime Rock Historic Festival was held at
Labour Day at the track at Lakeville near the border triangle of
New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. With about 200 cars
in 8 different race classes the track was hot for three days
including practice sessions, the qualifying and the final races on
Monday, the Labour Day being the traditional final of the race
weekend on the first Monday in September. |
Last week we reported on the Bugatti Meeting both in the races
and the Concours in the park at Lime Rock for the Lime Rock
Historic Festival around Labor Day. As mentioned back then this
was just the prelude for the International Bugatti Meeting to take
place the following week in the New York area. Every year one of
the numerous national Bugatti clubs is entrusted to host the
International Meeting and after several editions in Europe it was
finally time again to head overseas. As the last USA tour being
held on the west coast this year the transition period between
summer and fall was chosen for the meeting in Saratoga Springs
located in the middle-east of the state New York |
The final two races in the International GT Open series were held
at the Circuit de Catalunya over the weekend of the 20 – 21
October, with both the Team and Drivers’ Championships still to
be decided. In the Team Championship it was a battle between
2018 newcomer to the series, the American team Luzich Racing
with their Ferrari 488 GT3s, and the Italian team Imperiale Racing
with their Lamborghini Huracan GT3s. The Drivers’ title was
mainly between Luzich Racing’s Danish driver Mikkel Mac ... |
The Peter Auto organisation ran the Imola Classic race meeting
at the Circuit Enzo & Dino Ferrari over the weekend of 26 – 28
October 2018, offering free entry to all. This attracted a good
audience to watch a packed weekend of classic racing, despite
the weather being a mix of sunshine and showers. At least it
didn’t suffer from the torrential rain and storms that some parts of
Italy were experiencing that weekend. |
Ferrari and Formula 1, few terms are linked more than the famous
Scuderia and the top category of open wheel racing. Although
now waiting for more than a decade to bring back a title to
Maranello the Scuderia Ferrari is still the most successful team
in the History of F1 and Ferrari is the only team to run every
season since the series was introduced in 1950. Being the team
principle of the Scuderia Ferrari that ran the works entries for Alfa
Romeo in the 1930s Enzo Ferrari early on saw the importance of
the GP series aside the sports car world championship to
position his marque as the leading sport car manufacturer that it
should become over the next decades. |
Eight stunning ‘Best of Show’ winners from top concours around
the world have been revealed as nominees for the coveted The
Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award. The cars in
contention for the 2018 award will now be carefully reviewed by 26
respected judges, all of whom are leaders in their fields of
expertise. |
This time of the year, at the end of the season with the next one
just around the corner it is time to look back over the year and
the events one did attend. It is also the time to see what did not
make it online in time due to a packed schedule but could well
serve to get over the cold days until the classic cars are back on
the road for new adventures. |
This remarkable Formula 1 racing car is particularly iconic to any
motorsport enthusiast as it boasts an impressive pedigree. |
TFans and representatives of Scuderia Ferrari Clubs from all over
Europe are flocking to the Ferrari Museum today for the opening
of the ‘Michael 50’ exhibition on the occasion of the champion's
50th birthday. Maranello has put together a special exhibition
telling the story of Michael Schumacher's extraordinary
record-breaking F1 career: the German champion won an as yet
unequalled seven world titles, 91 victories, and 155 podiums. |
Smaller but refined, this might be the motto for this year’s
concours at the famous Breakers hotel. The main event of
Cavallino Classic 28 was spoiled by rainy weather all day but the
small but selected field of Ferrari Classic was still worth a visit.
Smaller than in previous years especially the lower lawn featured
less modern Ferrari as well as the 365 range was very thin but
the upper lawn in front of the hotel was more than a
compensation. |

Cavallino Classic 28 is on its way. After a private test day
yesterday at the nearby Palm Beach International Raceway
finally the visitors had the first chance to have a look at some
Ferrari old and new at the track today. Although the track days
are certainly not what they used to be back in the times of the
Ferrari Challenge the driving part is getting less and less every
year. For the first time the track did not see any racing action but
purely some free track time for either GT cars on a free track or
cruise groups behind a pace car. |
Rained out... this year's Cavallino Classic in Florid ended like
they began on Thursday during the private track day at the Palm
Beach International Raceway, with torrential rain. Whereas the
Concours on Saturday at the lawn at the Breakers suffered from
various showers this day at the Presidents Country Club, the
famous Mar-a-Lago, saw nothing but rain during most of the day.

Bonhams held its eighth sale at the magnificent Grand Palais.
The marathon sale saw more than 140 cars crossing the rostrum
over several hours and spirited bidding taking place beneath the
cavernous glass domes of the Grand Palais. The top lot of the
sale was the imposing and elegant 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540 K
Cabriolet A, formerly owned by His Majesty King Hussein bin
Talal, former King of Jordan. It sold for €1,581,250 to a European
bidder in the room. |
The 1987 Ferrari F40 LM was the undoubted star lot of the sale
and represented a very rare opportunity to acquire one of
Maranello’s legendary sports racing cars of the modern era. The
car offered is a unique piece of Ferrari history as it not only
boasts a significant and successful competition history, but it
also played an important development role as a pre-production
prototype. As a result, pre-sale interest in the car was very strong
and intense bidding in the room and over the phones saw the car
achieve €4,842,500 to set a new world record for the model. |
