... where you find your dream car

Every year the activities during the Monterey historic week seem to multiply, such that you almost need to cut yourself into pieces to get every bit of the action going on. If one looks at the schedule of events, one can see that there are now three concours on the Friday alone, how does one do justice in visiting all of them in a an eight hour period, especially when you take into account the travelling time between them. Also this year, the Ferrari Club of America Pacific Region have moved their concours from Friday’s Concorso Italiano, to a separate event on Thursday, which causes a clash with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, the first opportunity to see the cars entered in Sunday’s concours.

From the information released by the various organisers, it seems that the turbulent economic times haven’t affected the quality of the entries, with Pebble Beach hosting cars that shaped the Ferrari Legend, 10 Ferrari 166 MM Barchettas and a quartet of 250 Testa Rossa/59 models. At Concorso Italiano the new owners seem to have worked really hard at bringing the event back to its former glory, with numerous special features and displays, including the first showing of all four Alfa Romeo Bertone BAT cars together. You might ponder that there were only three, BAT 5, BAT 7 and BAT 9, but they had a new arrival in 2008 in the form of BAT 11, designed and built by Bertone for an American collector as a modern interpretation of the BAT theme.

One has to then factor in the five major auctions taking place, which are exotic car shows in their own right, with a large number of rare and exciting vehicles crossing the blocks in the various locations. Apart from the scheduled public events, there are always numerous corporate and private functions peripheral to the main activities, so it makes for a hectic week of what may be best described as motoring mayhem! Have you got the staying power to take it all in?
