A renowned name in the business
One day after the great Goodwood Motor Circuit Revival Meeting, I had the opportunity to visit David Cottingham's DK Engineering in Watford, Hertfordshire, one of Europe's leading restoration companies for classic Ferrari cars.

The workshop's location in the London suburb is relatively hidden in a trading estate in Rickmansworth Road. Having entered the shop, the first thing one will probably notice is the almost clinical atmosphere which is very adequate for the "patients": standing side by side are some of the most desirable Ferrari ever built.

During my visit, I could see again some of the cars which had been part of the abovementioned Revival Meeting: Nicolaus Springer's 860 Monza (s/n 0604M) and 250 GTO '62 (s/n 4153GT), Carlos Monteverde's 410 Sport Spider Scaglietti (s/n 0596CM) and of course David Cottingham's personal 500 TRC (s/n 0682MDTR). From the collections of Mr. Springer and Mr. Monteverde one could also see two genuine 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione, s/n 16363 and s/n 15667.

A 250 LM s/n 5901 was in the final stage of a ground-up restoration. The car had been sold to a collector in the UK in recent time and now sports a new livery of red with a white stripe. Paul Vestey's 1956 250 GT LWB Berlinetta Scaglietti TdF s/n 0677GT was on a lift while Ihm's 1957 example, s/n 0925GT, was undergoing a complete engine job.

But DK Engineering is not only an address for owners of particularly rare historic Ferrari, but also for less spectacular models of the marque. For example, a 330 GTC, a 512 BBi and a 412 were being worked on during my visit.

Sales and Service
Although DK Engineering do not run a showroom, sales of both classic and contemporary Ferrari cars are undertaken as well. For info on the current stock, one should contact David Cottingham's son Jeremy.
