Even the Williams (Villeneuve on 3rd) and Jordan (Damon Hill came in 4th) appeared to have been superior to the Ferrari on the highspeed circuit in southwestern Germany.

The race was everything but spectacular, being dominated very clearly by Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard; Eddie Irvine did not even get into the points - he came in on 8th position.

Looking back at the two seasons of 1996 and 1997, the outcome of the German Grand Prix is not that surprising. Since the V10 has been in use at Maranello, the results on the highspeed tracks have - unfortunately - become quite disappointing for the Scuderia and their fans.
