Between 1959 and 1962 Ferrari produced 25 400 Superamericas
Series I, with different bodywork styles by Pininfarina and
Scaglietti, all on a short wheel base (SWB). In 1959 the prototype
was displayed at the Torino Motor Show. It replaced the Model
410 and was Ferraris flagship. It was the first time Ferrari did not
name a road by the volume of a single cylinder, the 400
designation referred to the total engine capacity.
