The Donald L. Weber Collection

The auction house will present more than 20 automobiles from the collection of the late well-known Southern California collector Donald L. Weber. Mr. Weber’s extraordinary collection of postwar sports and racing cars is highlighted by a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (Estimate: $2,750,000 – $3,500,000), a superb example that he owned from new. Chassis 10443 was purchased by Mr. Weber at the Ferrari Factory in Maranello, Italy in 1967. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife, together with Luigi Chinetti and Eddie Smith, drove their new red 275 GTB/4 to France – a memorable trip documented in photos and a letter preserved in the car’s remarkable history file. In its 53 years under Mr. Weber’s ownership, 10443 has been comprehensively restored by the renowned Junior’s House of Color and Tony Nancy, exhibited at the 1997 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, and is Ferrari Classiche Red Book Certified. The presentation of this Ferrari at auction is a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a one-owner 275 GTB/4, complete with its original books, tools, and warranty card.

The Weber Collection also includes another significant one-owner Ferrari – an ultra-desirable 1992 Ferrari F40 (Estimate: $1,700,000 – $2,200,000), among the last of only 213 US-specification examples built. This F40 is one of just 22 built in 1992, the final year of production. It was purchased new by Mr. Weber and has been a fixture in his collection ever since. This is a true time capsule F40, presented in original condition and showing less than 2,500 miles on the odometer. Offered with its books, fitted luggage, extensive correspondence and documentation, and a report by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this is surely a unique opportunity to own a low-mileage, one-owner example of Ferrari’s most iconic supercar.

Alongside these outstanding Ferraris, additional highlights from the sale of the Weber Collection include a low-mileage 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS (Estimate: $1,300,000 – $1,600,000), a beautifully restored 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (Estimate: $550,000 – $650,000), a rare 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 (Estimate: $375,000 – $450,000), and two one-owner icons, a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition (Estimate: $275,000 – $350,000) and a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa (Estimate: $175,000 – $225,000, Without Reserve), both showing less than 2,000 miles. Also included in Mr. Weber’s collection is a selection of historic Indy cars and midget racers, including a 1951 Kurtis Kraft K4000 Indy Car (Estimate: $250,000 – $350,000) that Sam Hanks drove at the Indianapolis 500, as well as several rarely seen European tuner cars, including a 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi Koenig Special (Estimate: $250,000 – $350,000).

The Stephen P. Dean Collection
A true automotive enthusiast and a well-respected collector who was passionate about cars of all eras, Stephen P. Dean devoted much of his life to collecting and restoring classic cars. His diverse, wide-ranging collection, which includes everything from prewar American classics to postwar European sports cars, represents his deep love for all things automotive. He was an active member of numerous car clubs, founded and published the influential 4-Cam Registry, and served as a Chief Class Judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® for over 30 years.

Gooding & Company is honored to present Mr. Dean’s outstanding collection of classics, many of which he owned for decades. A highlight of his collection is the 1964 Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 Cabriolet (Estimate: $650,000 – $850,000), among the most desirable of all 356s and one of only 30 C Carrera 2 Cabriolets built. The 356, chassis 160790, was factory ordered in Champagne Yellow and equipped with many rare options. Delivered new to legendary film director John Sturges, it has been a part of Mr. Dean’s collection since 1967 and retains its matching-numbers engine per factory records. The company will also present Mr. Dean’s 1932 Marmon Sixteen Victoria Coupe (Estimate: $400,000 – $600,000), featuring coachwork by LeBaron. Among the most revered American automobiles of the Classic Era, this Sixteen was purchased new by Indiana industrialist Eli Lilly Jr. and has had just four owners since 1932. Maintained in original, unrestored condition, it was proudly displayed in the Preservation Class at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, and is offered with an impressive file of supporting documentation.

The Dean Collection also includes an early-production 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (Estimate: $350,000 – $450,000) featuring coachwork by Scaglietti, a fixture in the collection since 1982. This desirable European-specification Daytona was delivered new to Verona, Italy, originally finished in Blu Ferrari over Beige. This example, chassis 12699, is an ideal candidate for a complete, show-quality restoration and would look sensational in its original splendor, offering a compelling opportunity for enthusiasts at auction. Additional offerings from this collection include an award-winning, one-of-a-kind 1917 Locomobile Model 48 Gunboat Cabriolet (Estimate: $175,000 – $225,000, Without Reserve), a spectacularly restored 1931 Stutz Model MB Convertible Sedan (Estimate: $130,000 – $160,000, Without Reserve), and a 1931 Stutz SV-16 (Estimate: $50,000 – $75,000, Without Reserve).

The Mullin Automotive Museum Collection
The Pebble Beach Auctions will additionally include a selection of French classics from the Mullin Automotive Museum. These include several high-profile vehicles from the most revered marques. A highlight from the Mullin Automotive Museum Collection is the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Galibier ($200,000 – $225,000, Without Reserve) featuring rare Galibier coachwork by Vanvooren. This example, chassis 57224, is one of only 710 Type 57 motorcars built and was delivered new to Switzerland. Formerly part of the famous Schlumpf collection, one of the finest gatherings of Bugattis ever assembled, this elegant pillarless four-door sedan has since resided in the Mullin Automotive Museum, where it has been preserved in unrestored condition. A significant piece of Bugatti history that has been virtually untouched for decades, this magnificent Type 57 Galibier deserves to be treasured in a serious collector’s archive for perpetuity.

Additional offerings from the Mullin Automotive Museum include a classic 1937 Citroën Traction Avant 11 BL ($35,000 – $45,000, Without Reserve), a rare and unrestored 1924 Peugeot T-174 S (Estimate: $15,000 – $25,000, Without Reserve), and an extremely well-preserved 1951 Talbot Lago T-15 LB (Estimate: $15,000 – $25,000, Without Reserve) featuring coachwork by Chapron. Yet another highlight from the Mullin Automotive Museum Collection is a 1991 Citroën 2CV (Estimate: $10,000 – $15,000, Without Reserve), a classic example of a French icon in wonderful condition and one of the last ever 2CVS of over five million built in total.
