This past week, 16-17 January, RM Sotheby’s kicked off its 2020 calendar with the auction house’s 21st annual Arizona auction, totaling $30.4 million in sales with 90 percent of all lots sold. Held at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix during Arizona Car Week, the two-evening auction welcomed bidders from 26 countries around the world bidding in the room and via phone and internet, with nearly 25 percent registering to bid with RM Sotheby’s for the first time.

Top sales were highlighted by several modern supercars, including a 2018 Pagani Huayra Roadster, the 42nd of 100 built, finished in stunning Blue TriColore with exposed carbon weave trim throughout and showing less than 200 miles, which sold for a final $2,370,000. Additional well-sold supercars include a low-mileage, silver metallic over bright silver 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4, one of 178 fixed roof coupes built to the original specifications, at a final $1,105,000, and a Riviera Blue 2017 Ford GT, which was offered without reserve and sold for $923,500.

The 250 GT Series I set for RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, chassis no. 0913 GT, is the 25th of just 40 cabriolets built. Offered from over two decades of single ownership, 0913 comes to auction a proven rally and tour participant, having been shown by its current owner at numerous prestigious events, including the 15th annual Concorso Italiano, and driven on the 27th annual Colorado Grand. A wonderful grand touring Ferrari in all regards, 0913 would be an astute addition to any collection (Est. $6,000,000 - $7,000,000).

No less than 21 Ferrari models will cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction, with highlights including:

1954 Ferrari 250 Europa GT Coupe by Pinin Farina. The 11th of 43 built, it is equipped with its original engine and recently refinished in its original two-tone combination of Azzurro with a Grigio roof and beige leather interior (Est. $1,500,000 - $1,700,000);

·

stunning shade of Grigio Ferro and winner of the Cavallino Platinum Award in 2017, 2018, and 2019 (Est. $1,800,000 - $2,200,000);

·

by Scaglietti, one of 248 short-nose examples and 59 originally optioned with six carburetors, retaining its original chassis and engine, and winner of the Cavallino Platinum Award in 2013 (Est. $1,800,000 - $2,000,000);

·

the only car finished in livery no. 10 “the Grand Tourer” and showing only 109 miles (Est. $400,000 - $450,000); a 2018 Ferrari GTC4Lusso 70th Anniversary in livery no. 1 “The Icon” and reading just 1,200 miles (Est. $375,000 - $475,000); and a highly-optioned 2017 Ferrari 488 Spider 70th Anniversary, the only 488 Spider finished in livery no. 50 “The Magnum P.I.” (Est. $350,000 - $400,000).

The Arizona sale will also see an exceptional roster of modern performance and supercars, including:

42nd of 100 built, finished in stunning Blue TriColore with exposed carbon weave trim throughout and having accrued less than 200 miles (Est. $2,500,000 - $2,700,000);

livery and boasting optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system, ultra-lightweight wheels, and track telemetry app (Est. $1,100,000 - $1,250,000);

·

and 178 built to the original 16.4 production configuration, finished in a classic scheme of silver metallic over bright silver, and showing 720 miles (Est. $950,000 - $1,100,000);

·

heritage and believed to be the only 2017 example finished in Riviera Blue (Est. $750,000 - $1,000,000, without reserve).

RM Sotheby’s auction is also highlighted by a private collection featuring an eclectic lineup of 18 motor cars, appealing to various tastes and budgets and offered almost entirely without reserve. Leading the group is the original supercar, a stunning Rosso Corsa 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV by Bertone, one of 150 Miura SVs produced, of which only 70 were built in 1971, the first production year. Offered from just three owners since new and under the care of its current owner for the last 40 years, this Miura is one of few upgraded with a rare dry sump system. With a wailing V-12 engine as its power source, the potent Miura cranks out an impressive 385 bhp. As the ultimate iteration of the car that unquestionably put Lamborghini on the map, ownership of a Miura SV should be a requisite for any true aficionado of Italian supercars, and this example is not to be missed (Est. $1,400,000 - $1,600,000). The Miura is joined by a 1967 Maserati Mistral Spyder, one of 125 built, (Est. $450,000 - $550,000); and an extremely rare 1990 Vector W8 Twin Turbo (Est. $300,000 - $450,000).
