Laguna Seca, 12th - 13th of August, 2017

Once again it is the time in the year when the classic car world is looking towards the Monterey Peninsula for the Monterey Car Week. In the calm before the storm the first cars arrived at Laguna Seca this weekend for the annual Pre-Reunion races where the early arrivals can enjoy the famous Corkscrew before the masses invade the scene. With numerous Auctions, Concours and meetings the racing plays an important role and a lot of drivers took the chance to either test their cars before the actual races next weekend or simply extend their visit before joining the Concours next Sunday.

In 10 classes ranging from the early GT and Sports Cars as driven in the first races of the 60 year old track to the late IMSA racers the track was hot over the last two days. After the first practice sessions had to be black flagged due to stranded cars that still needed some sorting out the races in the afternoon where very much incident free as the drivers were very disciplined. Some might refer to the Reunion and the Pre-Reunion as fast demonstration laps rather than actual racing as seen especially in the UK but still the visitors were able to enjoy the cars on track and listen to the engine sound of the big block American racers or the whistle of the turbo charged Porsches.

The paddocks will fill up during the week for the main event next weekend and the features will include the Formula Junior cars with a strong class as well as “Racing through the decades” featuring cars for the last 6 decades at Laguna Seca.

Over the next days we will report on a daily base about what is going on at the peninsula, in the meanwhile enjoy a 195 image gallery from the first highlight of the week.
