Victory for Maserati, Bertolini and Salo
The #33 AF Corse Maserati MC 12, driven by Andrea Bertolini and Mika Salo, was victorious in its second-ever race, at the Oschersleben circuit today. Starting off cautiously in damp conditions, the car came to the fore and built up a good lead, to cross the line ahead of the nr 1 Ferrari 550 Maranello, the nr 8 RML Saleen and the nr 17 JMB Racing Ferrari 575 M Maranello - four different models of car in the top four ! "I've been on podium quite a lot lately, but this is the first victory for me for some years now. We were very consistent, though, and that's what helped us win the race," Mika Salo explained.

2004 title for Cappellari and Gollin
Second place today was equivalent to first in the points, and that was enough for Cappellari and Gollin to move out of reach of the rest of the drivers, and to claim the 2004 FIA GT Drivers' Championship. They are now 21.5 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Bobbi and Gardel, with two races remaining. "I am lost for words," a delighted Gollin said afterwards. The Italian duo, who started in the Championship with a Chrysler Viper before moving to the Ferrari 550 Maranello, have led since the start of the season.
