Glorious sunshine and clear blue skies provided perfect weather for DK
Engineering, the British Ferrari restoration specialists, and Kinnerton
Confectionery's joint test day for their clients at the Silverstone circuit on 24
August. The event gave them the opportunity to try their own cars on the track,
and also the chance to be driven round by the maestro Sir Stirling Moss in the
250 GT SWB berlinetta, chassis number 2735GT, of Kinnerton principal, Clive
Beecham, with which he won the 1961 Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood.
Associates of the two company's also brought a selection of Ferraris and other
cars in which guests could also have rides, whilst Aston Martin provided a DB7
Volante for arch historic racer Willie Green to give them the open air experience of
the British marque. |
Fortunately the day passed with nothing more than
a couple of punctures, and a couple of trips into the
"kitty litter", with ego being the only thing to suffer
any damage. The ingredients of fine weather, fine
cars and a splendid lunch laid on in the BRDC
suite, followed by an impromptu question and
answer session with Sir Stirling Moss, made for a
most enjoyable day, which from the smiles on the
faces of those present was a great success. |

The choice of rides on offer included the 500 TRC,
0682MDTR, of David Cottingham, a second 250 GT
SWB berlinetta, 3367GT, of Peter Sugden, a 250
GT Lusso, a 250 GTO replica built on chassis
number 5059GT, 275 GTBs, a 288 GTO, 456 GT,
550 Maranello, to no less than five F40s. The most
exotic Ferrari in attendance remained on static
display, this being the 375 MM Pinin Farina
berlinetta, chassis number 0320AM, of Sir Anthony
Bamford. However, its presence was a welcome
addition to the ranks, and it proved quite an
attraction, even to those who knew little about the
earlier examples of Ferrari's output. |
