The eighteenth International Classic Motor Show was held over the weekend
of 4-5 November, in Halls 4 and 5 of the National Exhibition Centre in
Birmingham, just a week after the biennial International Motor Show finished
at the same venue.
The British Ferrari Owners’ Club and Maserati Owners’ Club shared a large
stand in Hall 4, where eleven Ferrari models were displayed along with ten
Maseratis, to provide a wide range of models for enthusiasts of the marques to
appreciate. The Ferrari contingent ranged from a 500/625 F2 single seater,
through the brutally elegant 375 MM Pinin Farina berlinetta of Sir Anthony
Bamford, a 275 GTS fitted with the rare ”twin” passenger seat, Nick Mason’s
512 S, to the 360 Spider displayed at the International Motor Show the
previous week. The Maserati element was equally eclectic, with the unique
Technica 250 F single seater, a Tipo 61 Birdcage, a standard 250 F, a 5000
GT, Bora and the latest 3200 GT amongst the cars on display.
Both clubs had boutiques doing a good trade in club memorabilia, and the
perimeter of the stand was constantly thronged with people, admiring the fine
display of machinery from Maranello and Modena.
Elsewhere in the show there was a 365 GTB/4 on the Classic & Sports Car
magazine stand, and two further examples of the marque in the Autoglym
concours, a Dino 246 GTS and a 348 GTS. With numerous trade stands of
every description, plus a large autojumble section containing an assortment
of Ferrari memorabilia, ranging from scale models through brochures to books,
there was plenty on offer for the Ferrari enthusiast apart from the cars.
