After Ibrahim's assassination in 1954, first Omar's brother Busairi and then, after Busairi's death in a road accident, Omar himself became the royal adviser. After al-Gaddafi's takeover Omar sold his cars quickly for a fraction of their value. He was later life-time sentence in absentia by a Lybian trial.
