Amelia Island, Florida, 12 March 2010

A packed auction room marked Gooding & Company’s maiden auction at Amelia Island, and they weren’t just there as voyeurs, because the sale was a great success. Out of the 71 lots on offer, a total of 58 found new homes, with a combined sale total of $16.1 million including buyer’s premium. Within this figure there were three $1 million plus sales, with the stunning black, 2009 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance winning, 1931 Voisin C20 Mylord Demi-Berline setting a new world record for the marque when it achieved $2.75 million. Also breaking the $1 million barrier were a 1961 Porsche RS61 Spyder, which went for $1.705 million, and a 1932 Bugatti Type 50 Drophead Coupe, which sold for $1.1 million.

Other sales in the diverse array of automobiles on offer include an electric blue Lamborghini Countach LP 400, with a garish white and blue interior, which sold for $330,000,a 1956 Facel Vega FV2B Coupe, which went for $71,500, a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300C Station Wagon at $242,000, a 1939 Cadillac V16 Convertible Coupe made $231,000, and a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” with a disfigured chassis stamping achieved $313.500.
