Situated in the desert between Salinas and Monterey, every year in August the Laguna Seca Raceway hosts one of the most important Historic Race meetings – the Monterey Historic Automobile Races organised by Steve Earle.
Back to the roots motorsport-action is promised and looking in the official programme one could dream away thinking of great battles between Ferrari and Maserati in the 50’s.

Being familiar with European Historic Race events such like the Oldtimer-Grand Prix Nuerburgring I expected the same driver’s paddock equipped with fences,  barrages etc. to keep the visitors off the cars, but…not so in California ! As a visitor you can walk to every car and look under the bonnet if you want, talk to the proud owners which often tell you more background information to their cars you’d like to hear, and you can really feel how racing was initially in the 50’s, where all teams had their barbecue grille next to the race car and had a good time.

And the cars….where have you seen 4 Maserati Birdcages, 6 different Ferrari Testa Rossas plus a couple of Jaguar C- and D-Types racing together, when have you heard dozens of TransAm-Camaros roaring down the hills for the last time ?

A very attractive display showing important Ferraris ex-Formula One Champion Phil Hill drove in his career gave a perfect insight view in racing development by Ferrari and showed the difference to a 2001 Bentley Le Mans racer displayed next to them. In the afternoon break on Saturday Hill drove all his Ferraris around the track.
