Canary Wharf, London, 06 - 12 June 2011

The prelude to the 2011 Motorexpo show was a cavalcade of around 50 Jaguar E-Types, , which ran from the organiser’s headquarters near Hyde Park Corner, taking in famous landmarks like The Mall, Trafalgar Square and The Tower of London, on to the exhibition at Canary Wharf in the east of London. Despite inclement wet weather on the morning of 06 June, the E-Types, celebrating the model’s 50th anniversary, turned out in force to follow the team of 15 cyclists, headed by former F1 Champion Nigel Mansell OBE, in aid of the show’s designated charity, Youth UK. The show is part of a series, the first for 2011 being held in Los Angeles in May, with shows to follow in Toronto, Canada, later in June, plus New York in September.

The show took place in the exhibition areas and squares of the ultra-modern development, dominated by some of the tallest skyscraper architecture in London, whose predominantly glass clad structures have become an integral part of the London skyline, close to London City Airport. The show was free to visit for the public, who could also enjoy the plentiful amenities offered by the wide range of bars restaurants and shops within the complex, including names like Smolensky’s Restaurant, Bang & Olufsen, Hugo Boss and Tiffany’s, to name but a few.

The Show had strong manufacturer and specialist supplier support, with extensive displays from Audi, Bentley, BMW, both car and motorcycle plus Mini, Land Rover, Jaguar, Lotus, including an F1 car, Mercedes-Benz, Morgan, Saab, Skoda, Vauxhall and Volvo. Specialists included Khan with their personalised Range Rovers, and Schnitzer with their modified BMWs, plus Proteus with their C-Type replica. A broad span to enjoy, and you could leave the “significant other” to browse the shops and boutiques while you get your “petrol” fix.
