At the Cavallino Classic, Zagato presented the final Ferrari 575 GTZ
in the series of six examples to be produced by them. It is built on
chassis # 140719, and is a modern reflection of the 1956 250 GT
Zagato coupé, chassis # 0515 GT, in its colour scheme and some
of the styling details. The other five cars in the series, by build order,
are chassis numbers 134936, 127394, 136920, 127928 and
130838. Chassis # 140719 was built for an American client, Daniel
Stanton, who had long admired the original styling and colour
combination of the 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Zagato Coupé, chassis #
0515 GT, and wanted a modern interpretation of the theme. Thus
the blue and ivory duo-tone colour scheme that graces his car is a
reflection of that used on the earlier car. The colour scheme
emphasises the voluptuous curves of the car, which emanate from
the prominent ovoid radiator opening, with a traditional Ferrari egg-
crate grille, and then flow through to the beautifully rounded rear end
treatment with the tail lights under clear covers.
The ivory roof highlights the trademark Zagato “double bubble”
profile, whose curves are repeated in the shape of the rear screen
at both the upper and lower edges. Again, as with the earlier car
there is a chrome trim to the air intake on the hood, and stylised
versions of the original engine bay exhaust air vents on the fender
sides are a feature of the new car, beneath which are affixed the
famous lightning “Z” badges.
The interior is sumptuously finished in rich tan leather, which apart
from the seats and door panels, also covers the dashboard, centre
console, transmission tunnel, steering wheel, rear parcel shelf and
roof lining. The leather on the sides of the transmission tunnel and
rear shelf is diamond quilted, and the black carpets are bordered in
matching tan leather, providing the occupants with very special
“living accommodation”. The overall package is personalised haute
couture of the highest order.
A visit to the Zagato style studio at the end of 2009 provided a
glimpse of further offerings for 2010. However, as the projects seen
were still “under wraps”, it can only be said at this time that they will
provide two major new special models this year, which will be
displayed separately at two prestigious events. The first will be
publically unveiled at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza in April,
and the second at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in
August. Watch this space!
