Preview in Style
The annual press preview day, where Lord March outlines the programme for the Revival
Meeting in September, was held at the Goodwood Circuit on 18 July. As with the Festival of
Speed and the Revival Meeting themselves, there is a great attention to detail to make it an
enjoyable and informative day for the fortunate recipients of invitations. Registration was
held in the new, but period styled, race control building, from where one could go and take
coffee and biscuits in the pit garage, to the accompaniment of a musical quartet. One of
the features of the Revival Meeting is the acts of various sorts that tour the circuit reliving
the style of the fifties and sixties, like road workers, “spivs” in sharp suits and trilby hats
selling stolen goods out of a suitcase, the always popular Marilyn Monroe look-alike, and
sixties “pop chics”, all of whom were in attendance at the preview day for our
entertainment.
Park & Ride
Knowing Lord March’s penchant for excellence, it was inevitable that there would be more
than just musical and acting entertainment laid on for the gathering! He and his team had
assembled a selection of the cars that would participate in this year’s Revival Meeting for
our delectation, and courtesy of the benevolent owners we had the opportunity of
passenger rides in most of them, ranging from a 1923 Delage Bequet, through Maserati
200S and 300S models, a Jaguar Mk2, the Aston Martin Project 212, to a pair of Ford GT
40s. Thus, as the circuit is deep in the West Sussex countryside access is only viable by
car, so attendees were able to “park & ride”, and it was much more enjoyable than the
regular city park & ride schemes!
Coming Up
Lord March gave us a run-down on the features promised for the Revival Meeting, which
runs between 31 August and 02 September, so make a note in your diary now, or better
still book your tickets at www.goodwood.co.uk as it is always a sell-out, whatever the
weather. One of these will be a pre-1967 aircraft concours d’elegance, where it is
expected that there will be thirty historic flying machines assembled, a pair of which were
wheeled onto the main straight during the lunch break, together with the Napier Railton
from the Brooklands Museum, round which Lord March and his group of actors gathered
for a photo call. The always popular period garage at the Revival Meeting is being
redeveloped into a ‘30s style art deco car showroom, and will host a selection of historic
Ferrari road cars, in celebration of the marque’s 60th Anniversary. Other new features will
be a display of pre- 1967 touring caravans with appropriate tow vehicles, together with a
selection of mid-sixties “chopper” motorcycles. In all it promises to be another outstanding
gathering, with as much activity off the track as on, so definitely not one to be missed.
