Cottesbrooke Hall, 30 June, 2002

On the day that Brazil won the Football World Cup Final, the Ferrari Owners’ Club celebrated its 35th Anniversary with its National Meet & Concours in the pastoral setting of the grounds of Cottesbrooke Hall to the north of Northampton. The event was well supported by members, despite the clash with the football (it may have been different had England reached the final!), with over 420 Ferraris in attendance during the course of the day, fortunately enjoying fine weather throughout the proceedings.

Amongst the rarer models on display was the 212 Inter Vignale cabriolet, chassis # 0106E, of David Clarke, making a reappearance at a club event after a number of years absence. A further 212 Inter model bodied by Vignale was the delightful pale yellow and black coupe, chassis # 0197EL, of Sir Anthony Bamford. Another rare road car was a 500 Superfast, chassis # 6661SF, which looked magnificent in metallic blue, whilst a trio of 250 GT SWB models also graced the lawn. Amongst the competition cars there was a 166MM/53 Vignale Spider, a 500 Mondial, a 250 Testa Rossa, a pair of 250 LMs, a BB512/LM, and the unique 212 E Montagna that won the European Mountain Championship in 1969 driven by Peter Schetty.

Peter Everingham, the club secretary, and his dedicated band of assistants did a fine job in assembling a fine array of models for the indulgence of the attendees. Whilst his organising skills ensured that everything happened with military precision, as befits his background. Apart from the predominantly red carpet of Ferraris, there were a diverse range of trade stands to browse through, younger children were provided with an amusement area, whilst the hall and grounds were open to view, so there was plenty to occupy people in different ways throughout the day.
