A 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S Coupé, in festive red and
gold livery, was the top lot of Bonhams pre-Christmas Bond Street
Sale, selling for £1,067,800 to a telephone bidder. Today’s
season-ending auction at the flagship Bonhams saleroom
achieved a total of £6.5million and a 77% sell-through rate.
The landmark Miura, Lamborghini’s first mid-engine sports model,
was a matching numbers example, first owned by colourful
aristocrat and Scottish banking heir George De Vere
Drummond (Godson of George VI, backer of Radio Caroline and
former racing driver and team owner).
The Miura was offered from long-term family ownership of more than 25 years, along with its younger sibling, a
1981 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S Coupé,which achieved £460,000.
Sholto Gilbertson, International Senior Specialist, Bonhams Collector Cars and today’s auctioneer,
said: “Bonhams were honoured to have been entrusted by the late owner’s family to present and offer these
beautifully preserved supercars and are delighted with these results.”
Another powerful pair which proved popular in New Bond Street, selling at their top estimates, were two
Mercedes-Benz supercars: a 2009 SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster which achieved £687,000 and its
hardtop sibling 2007 SLR McLaren 722 Edition Coupé, which made £575,000.

Another big-hitting Mercedes-Benz was the ‘ultimate toy’, anultra-rare, luxurious high-performance off-roader,
powered by a twin-turbo V8 5.5-litre AMG engine, which had covered just over 100 miles from new.
2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 SE Coupé, sold above estimate for £276,000
The Countach’s replacement, the Diablo was the first Lamborghini to break the 200mph barrier. Only 42
examples of the swansong SE variant, considered the ultimate Diablo, were produced.
The ex-Esteban Ocon, 2017 Force India-Mercedes VJM10 Formula 1 Racing Single-Seater, sold for
£149,500
Offered directly from the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team, the racing car, which achieved
nine points-scoring finishes, helping the Force India team to fourth place in the 2017 Formula 1 Constructors’
Championship, raced past its top estimate to achieve the six-figure sum.
The earlier automobilia sale also saw impressive sales, with the nine of the top ten lots surpassing their top
pre-sale estimates, led by a pair of Jackie Stewart Faramaz Grand Prix race overalls, which achieved
£25,000.

Bonhams has all areas of the collector cars market covered, from the Victorian era to 21st century
supercars.”
Looking ahead to 2023, the first UK sale for Bonhams Collector Cars will be the Goodwood Members Meeting
Sale on 16 April at Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex.
