Bonhams|Cars finished its 2023 live auction calendar with the
success of the 10th anniversary Bond Street Sale on December
15. Featuring a range of collector cars spanning from Victorian
motorcars to 21st century supercars, the 31-lot sale made a
total of £2,872,125 with 81% sold by lot. The cover lot of the
sale was an important and historic 1965 Porsche 911 Coupé,
the first right-hand drive example built, which sold for £304,750.

The Roar Before the 24, the traditional event that includes testing
and qualifying for the 24 Hours at Daytona, opens the 2024
international motorsport season. Ferrari will line up for the
American round with five 296 GT3s and seven official Prancing
Horse drivers. Held in Florida between Friday 19 and Sunday 21
January, the Roar is the prelude to the 24 Hours – round one of
the IMSA SportsCar Championship – now in its 62nd year, which
will start on Saturday 28 January at 1.40 p.m. (local time). |
After their triumph in 2022, the Baron Motorsport crew in the
Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 came close to producing a repeat
performance at the 6 Hours of Abu Dhabi, finishing in second
place overall, first in the Am category. |
With the eighth time overall, sixth in the GTD class, Albert
Costa was the best of the Ferrari drivers to qualify for the 24
Hours of Daytona, the great early-season classic taking place
next weekend. Fifth place for Daniel Serra, twelfth overall, in the
GTD Pro class. The session, characterised by a red flag being
shown after a few seconds that, although it did not stop the
stopwatch, prevented the cars from taking to the track, took
place with low temperatures (27°C the asphalt, 12°C the air)

125,000 visitors this year. Artcurial’s official auction for the salon,

Hervé Poulain, accompanied by Matthieu Lamoure and Pierre
Novikoff conducted the auction for more than 6 hours during
which 75% of the vehicles offered found new owners. One of the
showcased supercars, a rare 2014 McLaren P1, one of only 375
built and with only 9,354 km on the clock, sold for €1,358,800. |

The Ferrari 499Ps took to the track for the second and third
official test sessions, as well as participating in an additional
unofficial fourth session. The fastest times came courtesy of crew
number 50, which stopped the clock at 1:40.673 in the second
session and number 51 with 1:42.208 in the third. These times
earned them a second and eighth place in the standings at the
end of the sessions. However, the 499P number 83 was the
fastest in the last session with 1:40.749. |

The first race of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship
season at the Lusail International Circuit concluded positively for
the Vista AF Corse-run Ferrari 296 LMGT3s. |
The AF Corse team’s 499P crossed the chequered flag in fifth
after completing 334 laps, with the Prancing Horse official drivers
Yifei Ye and Robert Shwartzman – both making their World
Endurance Championship debuts with the Maranello
manufacturer – with Robert Kubica. With this result, the yellow
liveried Ferrari Hypercar took second place in the FIA World
Cup for Hypercar Teams standings, and the three drivers
celebrated by climbing the podium. The result earned the number
83 crew 15 points for the Drivers’ standings and 27 points for the
FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams. |
This past weekend, Gooding & Company continued this trend
with the sale of the most valuable pre-1930s car at auction, the
1903 Mercedes-Simplex 60 HP ‘Roi des Belges.’ Undoubtedly
among the most significant cars to come to market in recent
memory, this incredibly well-preserved and historic automotive
artifact sold for $12,105,000, becoming the first antique car to
surpass $10,000,000. Throughout the course of its two-day sale,
Gooding & Company grossed $67,342,270, achieving an 87%
sell-through rate with 111 of 127 lots sold. The average price per
lot sold was $606,687, and 14 lots sold for figures over
$1,000,000. |
A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO was crowned Best in Show, Concours
de Sport while a 1947 Delahaye 135MS Narval Cariolet took
home Best in Show, Concours d’Elegance at the 29th annual
Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The Sunday Concours
concluded a week-long celebration of the automobile which
included auction, seminars, film viewings and several automotive
events. In total, over 27,000 automotive enthusiasts visited The
Amelia between February 29 and March 3. |
The Paul Ricard circuit in France hosted two days of pre-season
testing for the GT World Challenge Europe, with nine Ferrari 296
GT3s taking part. These cars will compete in the 2024 season of
the Endurance and Sprint Cup series. At the 5.791-kilometre Le
Castellet circuit, teams and drivers prepared for the first round of
the Endurance Cup on 7 April – a three-hour race – racking up
laps and collecting crucial information ahead of an intense year
held at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues. For the first
time, the closing event will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,

Inaugurated in 1921, Spa-Francorchamps is one of the world’s
most famous motorsport circuits. The first edition of Belgium’s
most iconic race, the 24 Hours, was in 1924. In more than a
